Six young stars selected from 150 applications
Our project for 2026, Love & Liberty: America’s Musical Journey, has proved hugely popular with young professional opera singers. Over 150 applied to attend the auditions.
Held in the hallowed studios of Covent Garden itself, 30 candidates were put through their paces by our Artistic Director, Susanna Stranders, our principal guest for 2026, Gweneth Ann Rand, and senior Covent Garden music staff member Mark Packwood. They were joined on the panel by our own Elaine Fairless.
Over an intense four hours the list of candidates was whittled down to a favoured six, selected for both their singing and ability to communicate with their audience.
